Atlanta Open: John Isner vs. Brandon Nakashima 8/1/21 Tennis Prediction

John Isner vs Brandon Nakashima
August 1, 2021 5:00 pm EDT

Sixth seeded American John Isner faces countryman Brandon Nakashima in the Final of the 2021 Atlanta Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday August 1st, 2021 at 5:00pm EST.

An exciting match is expected here in the Final of the Atlanta Open as Americans John Isner and Brandon Nakashima do battle for the title. The veteran Isner is out for revenge as Nakashima defeated him in the Semi-Finals last week at the Los Cabos Open, and he will be calling on every ounce of his experience to get the win here. The youngster will be desperate to win his first title after falling at the Final hurdle last week and will be very motivated here. Who will win and become the Atlanta Open champion?

John Isner is seeded sixth here at the Atlanta Open and is ranked 35 in the world. The veteran American has won 15 titles on the ATP Tour, including a record 5 here in Atlanta. After a poor start to the season he is regaining some form and confidence in recent weeks, having reached the Semis last week at the 2021 Los Cabos Open and going one further here by reaching the Final. As usual he has been relying on his big serve to get by, and has won tough matches against Christopher O’Connell, Jack Sock and Taylor Fritz in the Semis to reach this far. He was within a few games of losing against Fritz in the Semis, but was able to grind out a very tough three set win, setting up a rematch with Brandon Nakashima who defeated him last week. Isner is considered the favorite here but would be wise to not underestimate his opponent.

Brandon Nakashima is ranked 115 in the ATP world rankings and is in career best form. After reaching his first ever ATP Final last week in Los Cabos he has repeated the feat here at the Atlanta Open, notably defeating top seeded Canadian Milos Raonic in the Round of 16. He was very impressive in his Semi-Final win over Emil Ruusuvuori, serving extremely well and using his powerful groundstrokes to great effect. While he is the underdog here, he will be extremely confident as he beat opponent John Isner last week. If he is able to handle his nerves and stay focused he has an excellent chance of another upset here.

This is the second time that they have played each other in as many weeks, and I expect it to be another close battle. While Brandon Nakashima won last week, I believe that John Isner will get his revenge and claim the title here. His experience will be huge here, and he will be able to handle the pressure of a Final better than his young opponent. The Los Cabos Final loss will be weighing heavily on the youngster’s mind, and it will be hard to recover from that so quickly. John Isner should be better here on the crucial moments and I expect that to be the difference here in a close match. John Isner to win and claim his sixth Atlanta Open Title.
