Stefanos Tsitsipas meets Casper Ruud in the quarter final of the 2021 Rogers Cup on Friday, August 13th 2021. Who will make their way to the semi finals?

Which of these two incredibly talented youngsters will come out on top of this encounter? Will it be the World No.3 to show everyone why he is so high ranked? Will it be the Norwegian who is aiming to break into the top 10 in the world this year and make it to the ATP Finals as well?

Casper Ruud did not give anything up easily in his third round match, beating Dusan Lajovic in 2 sets 6-4/6-3 to get himself into the quarter finals. Ruud’s form from clay has definitely transferred over to the hard courts here at the Toronto Open, and this is a good sign for both the Cincinatti Open next week and the US Open at the end of the month. Casper has so much talent and he takes his playing style from Rafael Nadal, so I expect big things from this Norwegian both this year and in the next few years on the ATP Tour.

Stefanos Tsitsipas cruised through this third round match against the Russian Karen Khachanov in 2 sets 6-3/6-3. Tsitsipas did not care how good Khachanov had been playing in the last 3 weeks, as the Greek was aggressive from start to finish in that match, high up on the baseline getting himself on top of rallies from the get go. Khachanov did not seem to be happy with the tension in his racquet, but even if it was fine, Tsitsipas was just to good for him in that match and he will bring that confidence into this quarter final.

This is going to be the 3rd meeting between both players, with both of them having won an encounter against each other. Their first encounter was 5 years ago and you can’t take anything from that, but their last one was about 3 months ago and Ruud won in 2 sets. Obviously this match will not be as straight forward as their last one, especially as Tsitsipas was mentally tired in their last match, and he seems refreshed here. I expect both of them to come through with a set, but Tsitsipas will win in the end with his experience.
