Rogers Cup: Reilly Opelka vs. Daniil Medvedev 8/15/21 Tennis Prediction

Reilly Opelka meets Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2021 Rogers Cup on Sunday, August 15th 2021. Who will lift the masters 1000 trophy a few weeks before the US Open?

Which of these two great players will come out on top of this very exciting and entertaining match up on Sunday? Will it be the lower ranked but in form Reilly Opelka to lift his 1st masters 1000 trophy, or will Medvedev get his 4^th masters 100 title and continue to show us why he is the second best hard court player behind Novak Djokovic?

Reilly Opelka showed some great tennis against the heavy favourite Stefanos Tsitsipas, beating him in 3 sets, 6-7/7-6/6-4. Opelka was able to come out there and focus on his game and his service games and then this allowed him to just give it what he wanted when returning Tsitsipas’ serve, freedom. Opelka is great at the moment and all of this momentum will help him drastically going into Cincinnati next week, but also the US Open at the end of the month. Opelka knows how to get himself in winning situations against big named opponents, but he is meeting one of the biggest on hard courts now.

Daniil Medvedev also met a big server in his semi final, beating John Isner who is considered to be the best server of all time alongside Ivo Karlovic. However, even Isner’s serve was no match for the amazing return game of Medvedev as he was able to consistently get rallies going and get himself on top of the points by wearing Isner down. Medvedev will come into this final knowing he is the favourite but he also knows he cannot afford to let his guard down against the in form Opelka as he will otherwise pay.

This is going to be the 5^th meeting between both players, with Medvedev having won 3 of their 4 prior encounters. They are incredible players these two, and I expect so many more battles between each other on hard courts, but at the moment, on hard courts, there is a clear favourite when is comes to dominating, and that is Daniil Medvedev. Opelka is at his best on his serve, but when rallies come into play he can be beat. Medvedev is one of the best returners if not the best and he will be able to hit so flat and get himself through opponents at great speeds.
