Paula Badosa (24) of Spain will face unseeded Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck in the First Round of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday August 31st, 2021 at approximately 12:15pm EST.

Paula Badosa of Spain has been one of the standout players on the WTA Tour this season and has really established herself as a rising star of the women’s game. The young Spaniard will be hoping for a deep run here in New York as she aims to continue climbing up the rankings. First up in her path will be the Belgian veteran Alison Van Uyvanck who is a solid opponent. Can she cause the upset and send Badosa home early?

Paula Badosa is ranked at #26 on the WTA Tour and is the 24th seed here at the 2021 US Open. The Spaniard has been outstanding this season and has rocketed up the rankings to her current career-high. She is more considered a clay court player and has complied a WTA leading win-loss of 17-3 this season, including a title in Belgrade and becoming a Quarter-Finalist at the French Open. She has had some success on the hard courts also, reaching the Quarters at both the Olympics and the Cincinnati Open, beating some top players in the process. If she is fully fit she should be considered the big favorite here against her opponent Alison Van Uytvanck.

Alison Van Uytvanck is unseeded here at the 2021 US Open and is ranked #61 on the WTA Tour. She is a solid veteran player who was once ranked in the top 40 in the world a few years ago, but has been largely disappointing this season and has struggled to string wins together. She is the type of player that is very consistent but doesn’t have any real weapons which are needed when playing top players. She is the underdog here and will need her best performance in the past few years to cause the upset here.

This is the second meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour with the Belgian leading the head to head 1-0. However, I see this match being vastly different and I am predicting a straight sets win for Paula Badosa here. She is simply the better player, and should have no problems overcoming her opponent Alison Van Uytvanck. She should dominate this match from start to finish and will advance to the Second Round of the US Open.
