Benjamin Bonzi of France will meet German Daniel Altmaier in the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Mallorca Tennis Open. The match will be played on Thursday June 23rd, 2022.

Benjamin Bonzi is ranked #56 on the ATP Tour, not far away from his career high of #52. Not yet a household name, the Frenchman has been impressive over the past few months, and is on the verge of breaking into the top 50 for the first time with yet another strong result this week. After reaching the Quarter-Finals in Stuttgart where he unfortunately had to retire, he lost in the First Round in Halle, but pushed Stefanos Tsitsipas to the limit. He followed that up with some incredible tennis so far here at the Mallorca Open, notably upsetting Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-1. While the Canadian is in poor form it was still a dominant performance, and one that the Frenchman can be proud of. He has a very real chance here to reach his first ever ATP Semi-Final, and starts as the favorite over the lower ranked Daniel Altmaier.

Daniel Altmaier is also unseeded here at the Mallorca Open, and is ranked just below his opponent Benjamin Bonzi. The German has steadily risen up the rankings this year with some solid performances, but entered this event on the back of a five match losing streak. He was able to snap that streak with two solid wins over Dusan Lajovic and Sebastian Baez, but is yet to meet someone that is comfortable on grass. Altmaier is a powerful baseliner that is very capable, but he next meets the in-form Benjamin Bonzi who has recently played some outstanding tennis and is in the form of his life. This is still a winnable match and he would surely face the Frenchman than one of the seeded players, but it will be extremely difficult for him to get a result here.

This is a very unexpected match, and certainly not the Quarter-Final that most would have expected. With that being said, both men have played very well to get here and fully deserve their spot. They are very close in the rankings, but we have to give the nod to Benjamin Bonzi. He has gone toe to toe with some of the top players in the world recently, and his win over Shapovalov was the biggest of his career. His confidence will be sky-high as a result, and I expect him to win here, moving on to the Semi-Finals here at the Mallorca Open.
