Carlos Alcaraz will meet Jan-Lennard Struff in the First Round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday June 27th, 2022.

Carlos Alcaraz is the fifth seed here at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships and is heavily favored to go on a deep run here. The 19 year old Spaniard is the new darling of the ATP Tour, and has taken it by storm this year. He has defeated the top players in the world over and over again, winning Masters-1000 titles and proving his credentials as a future world number one. Boasting an incredible 31-4 record on the year he will be expected to go deep into the second week, but expectations should be tempered as he really doesn’t have much grass-court experience. Despite that, his power game will be extremely tough to contend with on this faster surface and if he can move well and keep his errors down he should win here.

Jan-Lennard Struff is a highly experienced ATP Tour player but has seen his form dip over the past few seasons. The German actually leads this head to head 1-0, but that was before Alcaraz is the force he is now. When he is in form, Struff is a very dangerous player as he possesses all of the tools to succeed on this surface, big serve, good volleys and big groundstrokes. Unfortunately, he is as inconsistent as they come and he really hasn’t produced any performances of note in a long time. He only won one of his four grass court matches this season, and that really isn’t good enough preparation to face one of the best players in the world in Carlos Alcaraz. He is the underdog here, make no mistake about it.

This should be a straightforward win for Carlos Alcaraz, but we will have to wait and see how he looks playing on the grass. Despite all of his success, it does not necessarily mean that it will translate well to this surface as the movement can be quite difficult. I still expect him to have enough quality to defeat the struggling Jan-Lennard Struff, but I would hold off on betting on the straight sets market or the games under. He make take a while to get accustomed to the surface here at Wimbledon, but expect Alcaraz to win and move on to the Second Round.
