The Danish star is one of the most promising young players in the world, and after a breakout year in 2022 will be hoping for big things in 2023. After a sluggish start to the season he wouldn’t have been happy to be drawn against the emerging Ben Shelton, but was able to overcome the challenge, coming from a set down to defeat the talented American. While he played well in that match and has a comparatively comfortable match here against Nuno Borges, he will know that he needs to be better if he wants to go deep here.

Nuno Borges is unseeded here at the 2023 Acapulco Open and is ranked 85th in the world. A solid enough player, the 26 year old spends most of his time on the Challenger Tour, with a few ATP Tour appearances in between. The highlight of his season was reaching the Round of 16 at the Delray Beach Open and he equaled that here, defeating Qualifier Nick Chappell in the First Round. The challenge of Holger Rune will be much greater however, and he will have to play the match of his life to have any chance.

Despite his indifferent form this season this should be a relatively comfortable win for Holger Rune. He certainly has not been at his best this year and was inconsistent in his win over Shelton, but the gap in quality is quite big here. Nuno Borges is a solid player but doesn’t have the firepower that he will need to trouble a top 10 player. It may be difficult at times, but back Rune to win in straight sets with confidence
