Daniil Medvedev will meet Sebastian Korda in the Third Round of the 2023 Australian Open. The match will be played on Friday January 20th, 2023.
Seventh seeded Daniil Medvedev has made a blistering start to his 2021 Australian Open campaign, trouncing Marcos Giron and John Millman without dropping a set. It is true that he is yet to be truly tested, and that will come a lot sooner than he would have liked, against the red-hot Sebastian Korda. The Russian has been one of the best players in the world for quite some time, even reaching the top of the rankings and winning a Grand Slam. The loss of Rafael Nadal means that he and Novak Djokovic are heavily favored to win the title here, but first he must overcome the young American.
Sebastian Korda is seeded 29th here at the 2023 Australian Open, and is one of the few players to enter this event in great form. He reached the Final in Adelaide, even holding match points before eventually going down to Novak Djokovic. He then cruised through the first two rounds, only dropping one set to the dangerous Cristian Garin in the First Round. He has the firepower and game to defeat Daniil Medvedev, but we have serious doubts that he will be able to focus and defend enough throughout five sets.
This should be an entertaining match, and though it seems like it will be a tight one on paper based on recent form, I am expecting Daniil Medvedev to win here in straight sets. He is simply too solid, with his defense unmatched on the tour. Korda has a huge game and if it clicks he can win a set, but expect the Russian to wear him down and eventually take the victory. Medvedev in straight sets is a very solid pick, and the odds can make it very profitable.
