Phoenix Mercury vs. Connecticut Sun
May 21, 2021 10:00 pm EDT

The Phoenix Mercury and Connecticut Sun face off on Friday in a WNBA showdown at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.

These two teams faced off once already this season and it was the Sun that were able to come away with the 86-78 victory. The Sun were led by DeWanna Bonner who finished with 27 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Mercury come into this game with a 2-1 record overall and the only loss so far this year came against the Connecticut Sun. The last game against the Washington Mystics, it was the Mercury’s offense that was the difference putting up 91 points and that led to the victory. The Mercury are led by Diana Taurasi, Brittany Grinner, and Skylar Diggins-Smith have been the best players this season. In this game for the Mercury it’s going to be about the defense stepping up.

ON the other side of this matchup is the Connecticut Sun who have played three games also, winning all three of the games. In the last game against the Indiana Fever it was the defense that was the difference giving up 67 points and that led to the victory. On the season, the Sun are averaging 84 points per game while their defense is giving up 70.7 points per game. DeWanna Bonner has been the best player this season for the Sun averaging 20.2 points while shooting 46.2 and 60 percent from behind the three point line.

The Sun had no issue in the first game and it will be the case again in this game. Look for Phoenix’s defense to have issues and that will be the difference as the Connecticut Sun come away with the victory and the cover of the spread.
