The Phoenix Mercury and Chicago Sky face off on Wednesday in the WNBA Finals at Talking Stick Resort Arena. In Game 1 on Sunday it was the Chicago Sky that were able to come away with the 91-77 victory. The Mercury were leading 25-20 at the end of the first quarter, but in the second quarter Chicago outscored them at 26-10, and they never looked back as they cruised to the victory.

Kahleah Copper was the best player for the Sky putting up 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Six different players scored in double figures for Chicago, The best player for Phoenix was Brittney Griner who finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Diana Taurasi also added 17 points while Skyler Diggins-Smith scored 15 points.

The Chicago Sky are a team that got hot at the right time, and now they are only a few wins away from a WNBA title. On the season, the Sky are averaging 83.3 points while the defense is giving up 81.9 points. Kahleah Copper has been the best player for Sky averaging 14.4 points while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Candace Parker has also been having a big year averaging 13.3 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.

On the other side of this matchup is the Mercury who are averaging 82.1 points while the defense is giving up 79.5 points. Brittney Griner has been the best player for Phoenix averaging 20.5 points while shooting 57.5 percent from the field. Skyler-Diggins Smith is averaging 17.7 points while shooting 45.5 percent from the field. In this game, Phoenix needs the defense to be a lot better, or they will be down 0-2 in this series.

Chicago really looked impressive in the first game of this series with their offense, and I don’t see that changing in this game. This has happened at times this season where the Mercury have really struggled to score, and that isn’t going to change in this game. I expect another big game from Cooper, but more importantly, it’s going to be a balanced attack with solid scoring from the bench too. Chicago might not win this game, but they are going to keep it close, and cover the spread.
