The Golden State Warriors invade the STAPLES Center to take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.
The Golden State Warriors have been in decent form as they’ve split their first 12 games, but they will be eager to get their season back on track after having their last game postponed. In Thursday’s 114-104 loss to the Nuggets, Stephen Curry led the team with 35 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, James Wiseman added 18 points while Andrew Wiggins chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Warriors shot 46 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line, but they were sloppy defensively to start the game and were always fighting an uphill battle after allowing 37 points in the first quarter. Curry did start to heat up late to keep the game interesting, but the Warriors just couldn’t recover after falling behind by 17 points early.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been the benchmark of the league as they’ve won 11 of their first 14 games and they will be looking to extend their current five-game win streak after blowing past the Pelicans in a 112-95 home win on Friday. LeBron James led the team with 21 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists, Anthony Davis added 17 points with five assists and three blocks while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell each scored 16 points. As a team, the Lakers shot just 41 percent from the field and 15 of 37 from the 3-point line, but they committed just six turnovers while forcing the Pelicans into 20 turnovers and limiting them to just 37 points in the second half.
Looking at the betting trends, the Warriors are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games playing on two days rest. The Lakers are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 Monday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall.
The Warriors will be lacking a bit of confidence after dropping their last two games, but while Curry is still healthy, you just get the feeling the Warriors will turn things around sooner rather than later. However, the Lakers have been in red-hot form lately and it hasn’t been close for a while as the Lakers’ last four outings were all double-digit blowouts. The Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall and I think they stay hot with another win and cover here, especially with the Warriors a little short at the center spot.
