The College of Charleston Cougars and the Wyoming Cowboys meet Friday in college basketball action from HTC Center. Charleston enters this matchup at 1-2 so far. The Cougars took a loss to Vermont in their last game. As for Wyoming, they’re 2-1 on the season and coming off a Thursday loss to Saint Louis. College of Charleston Cougars 

Charleston started out the season with a nice victory over Iona, shooting 42.4 percent from the field with 40 rebounds in a 71-69 victory. The Cougars weren’t great from 3-point range (5-of-28) in that matchup, however. Game two was Charleston’s first loss, a 90-72 result versus Duquesne that featured 7-of-27 on 3-point attempts. 

The Cougars took on Vermont in their latest matchup. Charleston blew a 36-27 halftime lead with a 46-28 deficit from there and ended up losing 73-64. Leading the scoring was Ben Burnham with 13 points and five rebounds. Ante Brzovic came off the bench to add 12 points and six boards of his own. 

Wyoming Cowboys 

Over on the Cowboys’ side, they got off to a good start this year with victories in their first two games. Wyoming didn’t have any issues with Northern New Mexico in their opener, cruising to a 104-56 win. Game two was an 80-66 win over Cal Poly. The Cowboys managed to shoot 52.1 percent from the field with 38 rebounds in that one. 

Back on Thursday versus Saint Louis, the Cowboys took their first loss of the season. Wyoming was up 35-34 in the first half, then faded in a 79-69 defeat. Caden Powell led the team on 17 points, while Cam Manyawu doubled up on 15 points and 12 boards. Sam Griffin added 15 points with four assists as well. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’m going to stick with the Cowboys. Wyoming ran into a pretty decent Saint Louis team on Thursday and didn’t shoot well enough to topple the Billikens. The Cowboys hit just 35.2 percent from the field and a rough 14.3 percent (3-of-21) from 3-point range. The rebounding was still good however (46), and Wyoming was great from the line on 16-of-17 free throws. Wyoming is going to need some higher percentage shots in this one to get going (and cut down on their 19 turnovers), but they should play well against Charleston. The Cougars have given up 69 or more points in all three games so far; there should be some scoring to go around.
