The Nebraska Cornhuskers meet the Fordham Rams in week 1 2021 college football action from Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Fordham Rams come into the 2021 season off of a 2-1 mark in a shortened 2020-21 spring football campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tim Demoral completed 72% of his passes with five touchdowns and three interceptions which was up from a mediocre 59% passing completion percentage the year prior. Trey Sneed led the Rams with 58 rushing yards per game which was up from his 50 yards per game the year prior and the top receiving targets for the Rams in the spring were Fotis Kokostoulis and Dequece Carter as each recorded over 90 receiving yards per game. On defense, Ryan Greenhagen is the player to watch at linebacker afterlogging 123 tackles in his last full season while Glenn Cunningham is right alongside Greenhagen. Anthony Diodatio and Jonathan Coste lead the pass rush up front as well for the Rams this season. As a team, Fordham averaged 31.6 PPG while allowing 19.6 PPG last season.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers come into the 2021 campaign looking to shake off another frustrating season, finishing the year at 3-5 in Big Ten conference play. Adrian Martinez is back and doesn’t have to look over his shoulder as Luke McCaffrey is no longer a Cornhusker. Martinez and McCaffrey didn’t just lead the way in the passing game, but the two were responsible for a lot of the rushing duties as well, accounting for almost half of the carries from last year and 55% of the rushing yardage from last season. The Huskers have a nice running back rotation this time around to take the load off of Martinez, led by USC transfer Markese Stepp (who is looking to have a clean bill of health after getting injured in the spring), Marvin Scott and Gabe Ervin. The issue will be receiving as there’s not a lot of proven commodities, but there is size there. The Huskers lost 2020 leading receiver Wan’Dale Robinson to the transfer portal but Levi Falck is back and the Huskers have a pair of solid tight ends in Austin Allen and Travis Vokolek. On defense, that’s where the Huskers are hiding their strength and experiencew with five seniors back and Cam Taylor-Britt who is also back after rumblings of him going pro following his junior season last year. JoJo Domann is one of those seniors that return after leading the Huskers with 58 tackles last year but Will Honas is out for the time being after a knee injury sustained in the spring. As a team, Nebraska averaged 23.1 PPG while allowing 29.4 PPG last season.

The over is 7-0 in Fordham’s last 7 games and 7-0 in their last 7 road games. Nebraska is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games played in September and 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games played on Saturday while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall.

I had a feeling that Nebraska was going to have struggles in their opener against Illinois, but the Huskers just looked bad for most of that game and the game wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. I’m not saying Fordham wins this game outright, but screw laying six touchdowns with Nebraska. Not after last week. Give me Fordham and the points.
