The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers meet Thursday in MLB action from American Family Field. This will be the final installment in a four-game set. The Cardinals took the first two games in this series, then on Wednesday St. Louis kept it going with another victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

The Cardinals powered out a 5-2 victory in the Monday game of this series, then kept it going Tuesday with a 2-1 win. On Wednesday St. Louis posted 15 team hits on the way to a big 10-2 win. Starter Miles Mikolas put up 7.0 frames with two earned on four hits.

For the starter job in the Thursday game three, the Cardinals will send out Adam Wainwright. Over 196.1 innings this year Wainwright has 157 hits, 65 runs (63 earned), 18 homers allowed, 46 walks, 169 Ks and a 2.89 ERA.

Over on the Brewers’ side, they couldn’t get much going offensively on Tuesday, posting just four team hits and one run. In the Wednesday game Milwaukee gave up six runs in the first two innings during the defeat. Starter Brett Anderson put up just 1.2 innings with two earned on six hits and one walk.

Starting pitcher for the Brewers on Thursday will be Adrian Houser. Over his 131.1 innings this year Houser has 110 hits, 60 runs (50 earned), 12 homers allowed, 60 walks, 101 Ks and a 3.43 ERA.

The Cardinals are 16-5 in their last 21 road games and 2-7 in their last nine in game four of a series. The under is 5-0-1 in St. Louis’ last six in game four of a series and the over is 4-1 in their last five on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Brewers are 41-18 in their last 59 versus a right-handed starter and 36-16 in their last 52 versus the NL Central. The under is 13-6-2 in Milwaukee’s last 21 at home versus a team with a winning record.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Cardinals. This should be a good starter matchup regardless, though. Houser was a little choppy in his last outing (four earned; 4.0 innings) but prior to that had a scoreless streak of 15.0 innings over two starts. As for Wainwright, he’s given up six earned over his last three starts in 20.1 innings. I like both guys to pitch pretty well here in a lower-scoring St. Louis win. Should be a fun game to watch.
