The Milwaukee Brewers and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Saturday in MLB action from Chase Field. This will be the third installment in a four-game series over the weekend. The Diamondbacks put up a shutout win in the opener, then on Friday Arizona kept it up with a close victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Milwaukee couldn’t get anything going on four hits in the Thursday game, falling 5-0 in a shutout. On Friday, the Brewers out-hit the Diamondbacks 9-6 in a 2-1 loss. Starter Eric Lauer finished with 6.2 innings, both earned, six hits and five Ks.
For the starter job in the Saturday game, the Brewers will send out Corbin Burnes. Over his 26 starts this year Burnes is 9-6 with a 2.84 ERA. In 158.1 innings total he has 50 earned, 112 hits, 43 walks and 195 Ks.
Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they scored three in the first two innings Thursday and never looked back. On Friday, Arizona scored both runs in the fifth and were able to hold on in that one as well. Zach Davies went 4.2 innings in the start with one earned on six hits and a walk.
Madison Bumgarner will take the mound for the Diamondbacks on Saturday. In 26 starts this year Bumgarner is 6-13 with a 4.87 ERA. Over 136.2 innings total he has 74 earned on 158 hits and 43 walks with 99 Ks.
The Brewers are 7-3 in their last 10 road games versus a lefty starter and 4-10 in their last 14 in game three of a series. The over is 5-2-1 in Milwaukee’s last eight road games.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 17-36 in the last 53 Saturday games and 49-105 in their last 154 versus a team with a winning record. The under is 5-2 in Arizona’s last seven Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to lean toward the Brewers in this one, so long as they get the bats moving. Both these starters have been having trouble lately however, so it’s anyone’s guess how game three will pan out. Burnes has given up nine earned over his last 9.2 innings on 13 hits and three walks. As for Bumgarner, he’s coughed up 18 earned in 14.2 innings over his last three outings. Needless to say, both guys will need a good showing here. Should be interesting.
