The Los Angeles Clippers play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the Staples Center on Saturday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their past eight games, but they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after falling short against the Lakers in a 116-105 road loss on Thursday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 26 points and seven assists on 10 of 18 shooting, Terry Rozier added 20 points while PJ Washington chipped in with 18 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. As a team, the Hornets shot 49 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line as they rallied in the third quarter to come back from an 18-point deficit, only to get blown out in the fourth quarter as the Lakers’ LeBron James took over late.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost five of their past seven games and they will be hoping to bounce back in a hurry after getting routed by the Mavericks in a 105-89 road loss on Wednesday. Paul George led the team in scoring with 28 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Kawhi Leonard scored 20 points with seven assists while Ivica Zubac chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Clippers shot 42 percent from the field and nine of 32 from the 3-point line as they fell behind early after scoring just 22 points in the second quarter, before getting routed in the fourth quarter where they managed just 18 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games as an underdog. The Clippers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a home favorite and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the Hornets are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Los Angeles and the Hornets are 6-14 ATS in the last 20 meetings overall.
The Clippers haven’t been anywhere near their best lately and they will again be shorthanded as they will be without Serge Ibaka and Patrick Beverley, so this looks like a great opportunity for the improving Hornets to steal a game here. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Clippers snap out of their funk with a win here, but this just seems like too many free points to be giving this Hornets team in this form.
