The San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks collide at the American Airlines Center on Sunday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their past 10 games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight loss after coming up short against the Warriors in a 100-94 loss last night. Lonnie Walker led the team with 24 points off the bench, Tyus Jones added 15 points with seven assists while Joshua Primo chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Spurs shot just 40 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they struggled to find their offense and they were always fighting an uphill battle after falling behind by 17 points. Jock Landale had a forgettable night as he finished with just six points on one of 10 shooting off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in great shape as they’ve won six of their last seven games and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after making light work of the Trail Blazers in a 128-78 home win on Friday. Luka Doncic racked up 39 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists, Dwight Powell added 18 points on seven of seven shooting while Dorian Finney-Smith chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 53 percent from the field and 20 of 45 from the 3-point line as they made this one look easy right from the start by outscoring the Trail Blazers by36-13 in the first quarter and the margin only grew as the game wore on.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. The Mavericks are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 20-8-1 ATS in the last 29 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings in Dallas and the Spurs are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Dallas.
The Spurs will be missing Jakob Poeltl, Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson, while the Mavericks have ruled out Maxi Kleber and they’ve listed Marquese Chriss and Frank Ntilikina as questionable. The Spurs are playing this one on zero days’ rest after last night’s loss to the Warriors, so I’ll lean towards the Mavericks to stay hot with another big win in this spot.
