The San Antonio Spurs pay a visit to the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center on Tuesday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a funk lately as they’ve lost five of their past seven games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Lakers in a 114-106 road loss on Sunday. Keldon Johnson led the team with 24 points on nine of 18 shooting, Dejounte Murray racked up a triple-double of 22 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Thaddeus Young chipped in with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot 44 percent from the field and 16 of 36 from the 3-point line which was good enough to hang in the contest until the third quarter where the Lakers made another run to go ahead by 13 points. The Spurs simply had no way to contain the Lakers’ Anthony Davis who scorched them for 34 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in red-hot form as they were riding a seven-game win streak before they lost to the Bulls in a 100-90 home loss on Sunday. Paul George led the team with 27 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, Eric Bledsoe added 21 points while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 13 points, but no other player scored more than eight points. As a team, the Clippers shot a miserly 35 percent from the field and 11 of 34 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by double-digits after managing just 17 points in the first quarter, before going cold again in the fourth quarter where they scored just 19 points. Only two players shot above .500 for the game with George shooting just seven of 25 from the field while Jackson shot just four of 17 from the field.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss. The Clippers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a double-digit loss at home, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team below .400 and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the Spurs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Los Angeles.
The Clippers are still shorthanded as they are without Serge Ibaka and Marcus Morris while the Spurs are missing Jakob Poeltl and Jock Landale. The Spurs have yet to hit their stride this season, but they’re getting better games from their role players and Murray is coming into this one fresh off a triple-double, but the Clippers are clearly the team in better form as they were on fire before laying an egg against the Bulls on Sunday in a game where they shot just 35 percent from the field. I think the Spurs hang around in this one, but I’m sticking with the Clippers to pull away for the win and cover behind a big game from George.
