The Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Toronto Raptors at the Crypto.com Arena on Friday night.
The Toronto Raptors have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their last six games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting beaten by the Clippers in a 108-100 road loss on Wednesday. Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes led the team with 20 points each, OG Anunoby added 18 points while Fred VanVleet chipped in with 13 points and nine assists. As a team, the Raptors shot just 38 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line as they restricted the Clippers to just 17 points in the first quarter to jump out in front at the start, but the Clippers responded and took the game away with 66 points in the second and third quarters combined. Scottie Barnes shot just six of 21 from the field while Gary Trent Jr finished with just seven points on two of 11 shooting off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in pretty good shape as they’ve won six of their last eight games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight win after beating the Grizzlies by 112-103 on Tuesday. Anthony Davis was on fire once again as he led the team with 30 points, 22 rebounds and three assists on 11 of 17 shooting, while Dennis Schroder, Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves each scored 17 points. As a team, the Lakers shot 45 percent from the field and seven of 28 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Grizzlies in a close contest, until the midway through the fourth quarter where they went on a pivotal 8-0 run to pull away and escape with the important victory.
Looking at the betting trends, the Raptors are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Friday games. The Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a losing record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Raptors are 20-6 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall and the Raptors are 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Los Angeles.
The Raptors have gone off the boil lately despite being close to full health so it’s no surprise that they’ve opened as underdogs against the shorthanded Lakers who are still missing LeBron James. The good news for the Lakers is that they’ve been playing well and they should have D’Angelo Russell back in the lineup for this one. The betting trends favor the Raptors in this one, but it’s been the Lakers who are playing like they’re on a mission and I think they can get the job done behind another big game from Davis in this one.
