The New York Knicks play host to the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a major slump lately as they’ve lost six of their past seven games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after falling painfully short to the Nets in a 121-119 overtime road loss last night. Lonnie Walker led the team with 25 points, Dejounte Murray added 19 points with nine rebounds and 12 assists while Bryn Forbes chipped in with 18 points and five assists off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line as they clawed their way back from a 14-point deficit to force overtime, only to come up just short as the Nets’ Cam Thomas drained the game-winning shot with just 1.7 seconds remaining. Joshua Primo had a night to forget as he shot just four of 16 from the field for his 12 points while Murray shot seven of 22 from the field.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in decent shape lately as they’ve won five of their past eight games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting thrashed by the Celtics in a 99-75 road loss on Saturday. RJ Barrett led the team with 19 points, Immanuel Quickley added 18 points while Julius Randle tallied 13 points with 12 rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Knicks shot just 36 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they scored just 16 points in the second quarter to trail going into halftime, before getting blown out in the second half by 55-33. Alec Burks had a rough night as he scored just eight points on two of 11 shooting, while the Knicks shot just six of 15 from the free throw line as a team.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Knicks are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 6-17 ATS in their last 23 games playing on one days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in New York.
The Spurs are again without a list of players including Thaddeus Young, Derrick White and Tre Jones, while the Knicks have Kemba Walker, Nerlens Noel and Evan Fournier all listed as questionable. The Spurs have been ice-cold over their past seven games, but they will take plenty of confidence from last night’s narrow loss to the Nets as they pushed them right to the brink. The Knicks were starting to build some momentum before the Celtics stomped them on Saturday and now they have at least three players listed as questionable. This should be a close one, so I’m sticking with the Spurs and the points in a game they could win outright.
