The Washington Wizards invade the Moda Center to take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in a slump as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after last night’s 122-109 road loss to the Lakers. Kyle Kuzma led the team with 23 points on nine of 18 shooting, Corey Kispert added 21 points while Kristaps Porzingis and Tomas Satoransky each scored 14 points. As a team, the Wizards shot just 45 percent from the field and nine of 27 from the 3-point line as they controlled the first half to take the early lead, but their defense never came out of the locker rooms in the second half where the Lakers exploded for 70 points to win comfortably in the end.
Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers have been in terrible shape as they are currently mired in a six-game losing streak and they will be hoping for a better showing after getting pummelled by the Jazz in a 123-85 road loss on Wednesday. Trendon Watford led the team in scoring with 22 points off the bench, Keon Johnson added 15 points with five assists while CJ Elleby chipped in with 10 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot horrid figures of 32 percent shooting from the field and nine of 36 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by double-digits early and never looked threatening. Brandon Williams scored just nine points on three of 13 shooting while Josh Hart finished with just five points on two of 11 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 road games, 5-20-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a losing record and 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall. The Trail Blazers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on two days’ rest and 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings overall, the Wizards are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall and the Wizards are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Portland.
The Wizards could really do with a win to get their season back on track and they couldn’t have found a better opponent as the Trail Blazers have been absolutely ice-cold lately as they’ve lost their last two games by a combined total of 91 points. You couldn’t bet on either team with much confidence these days, but if I had to choose, I’d lean towards the Wizards to get the job done in this spot.
