The Atlanta Hawks have been in a real funk as they’ve lost five of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting thrashed by the Cavaliers in a 128-105 road loss on Tuesday. De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic led the team in scoring with 18 points each, Saddiq Bey and Clint Capela scored 14 points each while Trae Young chipped in with 13 points and 10 assists on three of 14 shooting. As a team, the Hawks shot just 34 percent from the field and 13 of 44 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 33 points in the first quarter to take an early 12-point lead, but they couldn’t maintain that pace and got outscored by 64-44 in the second half to get completely blown out in the end.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in a real slump as they’ve won just three of their first 17 games overall and they will be hoping to put an end to a 12-game skid after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 132-120 road loss on Sunday. Victor Wembenyama led the team with 22 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and four blocks, Devin Vassell added 19 points off the bench while Malaki Branham chipped in with 15 points on six of 11 shooting. As a team, the Spurs shot 45 percent from the field and 14 of 37 from the 3-point line, but they had no answer for the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic on the defensive end and trailed by as many as 28 points before they made a late run to keep the final scores respectable.

The Hawks are still a little shorthanded with Jalen Johnson still out, while the Spurs are keeping an eye on Victor Wembenyama who is questionable due to right hip tightness. The Hawks are stuck in a rut at the moment and their confidence took another shot to the guts after getting routed by the Cavaliers in their last outing, but the Spurs have really been one of the worst teams in the league lately and they could be missing their big man for this one. The Hawks need a win to get their season back on track and I think they get it done with ease in this spot against the shorthanded Spurs.
