Dallas Mavericks Betting Preview

The Dallas Mavericks will be hoping to move on from a disappointing season after they lost nine of their final 11 games of the regular season to finish with a 38-44 record. The Mavericks weren’t good enough to make the playoffs last season, but the only way is up as long as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving can both stay healthy. The Mavericks acquired Grant Williams, Dante Exum and Derrick Jones Jr, but they still need plenty of help on the defensive end where they are ranked 25th in the league, allowing an average of 116.1 points per game.

San Antonio Spurs Betting Preview

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs are ready to return to relevancy after winning just 22 games last season to land them the first overall pick to use on Victor Wembanyama who lit up the preseason on both ends of the court. The Spurs still don’t have too much talent outside of Wembanyama other than Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson, but as long as Wembanyama can stay healthy, this team could almost double their win total from last season.

Trends

Dallas are 7-1 SU in their last 8 games against San Antonio. The total has gone OVER in 4 of Dallas’ last 5 games. San Antonio are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games. The total has gone OVER in 6 of San Antonio’s last 6 games against Dallas. San Antonio are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games played in October.

Peter’s Pick

The Mavericks understandably open as slight favorites on the road given their backcourt duo of Doncic and Irving, but they didn’t do anything to improve their team on the defensive end. There is plenty of hype surrounding Wembanyama but he has already shown that he is as good as advertised and his length on defense is a major factor. This one is tough to pick, but the Spurs looked great in the preseason and I think they can surprise the Mavericks at home in this spot.

Joe Hall's Free Pick: San Antonio +3.5
