The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Tuesday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. This will be the second installment in a three-game series this week. In the Monday opener the Cardinals posted a blowout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers played the Royals over the weekend and took a three-game sweep. In the Monday opener versus the Cardinals, Milwaukee gave up 10 runs in the eighth inning alone during an 18-1 blowout defeat. Starter Freddy Peralta lasted 5.1 innings with six earned on six hits and five walks.

For the starter job in the Tuesday matchup the Brewers are sending out Wade Miley. Over his seven games this year Miley is 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA and 24 Ks in 40.0 innings. Miley is 102-96 with a 4.11 ERA in 299 career games (292 starts).

St. Louis Cardinals

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they played the Red Sox over the weekend and also managed a three-game sweep. In the Monday matchup St. Louis posted 16 team hits in the blowout win. Jack Flaherty put up 7.0 clean innings in the start with three hits, two walks and 10 Ks.

Jordan Montgomery will take the mound for the Cardinals on Tuesday. Across eight starts this year Montgomery is 2-5 with a 4.11 ERA and 41 Ks in 46.0 innings. Montgomery is 30-28 with a 3.87 career ERA in 117 games (116 starts).

The Brewers are 12-5 in their last 17 in game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five versus a lefty starter. The under is 4-1 in Milwaukee’s last five Tuesday games.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 41-17 in the last 58 versus a lefty starts and 8-17 in their last 25 versus a team with a winning record. St. Louis is 2-6 in their last eight in game two of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the Brewers here. Both starters are going to need a bounce-back effort, though. Miley gave up seven earned in 5.0 innings during a loss to the Dodgers his last time out. As for Montgomery, he lost to the Cubs in his last appearance with 5.0 innings and six earned. In the Monday opener, Milwaukee fell behind early and the pitching staff just didn’t have it. Every player that stepped on the mound gave up at least one earned run, and the combination of Peralta and Gus Varland was responsible for 15 of them. It’s going to take an effort to get back to normal in game two, but ultimately I think Milwaukee will have a decent shot at a victory.
