I’ve vowed to not making any premium picks for a couple of days because I’m ice cold at the moment, but if I were making one today, then the over in this game would be my play.
You wouldn’t really know it, but the Detroit Pistons have been one of the better offensive teams in the league over the last couple of weeks. If you take away that horrible 79 point performance against the Bulls at the end of November, you will find that the Pistons are averaging 105 points over their last eight games, which is six points above their season average. The over has also hit in seven of those contests as well.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the same boat as Detroit as they have had one really ordinary offensive performance recently, which was an 84 point outing in Indiana also at the end of November. Having said that, you can kind of understand such a low score against what is the best defensive team in the league in Indiana. The T-Wolves also only put up 82 in home loss against Miami on Saturday, but they were without Kevin Love for personal reasons. In all their other games surrounding those two, Minnesota has put up an average of 107.4 points per game and their totals have averaged 211.2, which includes a 111-81 domination over Brooklyn.
While Detroit’s defensive numbers have looked better lately, it has more to do with who they have played than anything else. As far as the Timberwolves are concerned, they don’t put much emphasis on the defensive end and they have given up an average of 108 points over their last six outings. Given everything we already know and the fact that Kevin Love is expected back, I think this is the strongest play on the board tonight...
