The Los Angeles Lakers look to stay hot when they battle the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center on Sunday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in great form as they’ve won five of their last six games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Timberwolves in a 123-111 road win on Friday. Anthony Davis led the way with 38 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks, LeBron James added 18 points with 10 rebounds and six assists while D’Angelo Russell chipped in with 12 points and 10 assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 50 percent from the field and nine of 22 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Timberwolves in the first half and fell behind by 13 points, before they exploded for 68 points in the second half to make it look easy in the end.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been in poor form as they were riding a seven-game losing streak before they snapped out of it with a 121-115 win over the lowly Pistons on Friday. Kevin Porter Jr. led the team with 33 points on 12 of 20 shooting, Jalen Green added 32 points and five assists on 10 of 18 shooting, while Alperen Sengun chipped in with 15 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Rockets shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they wrestled with the Pistons in a close contest, until the late in the fourth quarter where they used a pivotal 15-8 run to pull away and escape with the narrow victory at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 18-8 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Rockets are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Lakers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Lakers are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Houston.
The Lakers are keeping an eye on LeBron James who is listed as questionable for this one, while the Rockets are again missing Jae’Sean Tate. The Lakers have been one of the hottest teams in the league and they were able to keep it going in James’ first game back from injury, but the Lakers could be without him again which makes this one a little tricky. Still, the Lakers are the much better team with more to play for, so I don’t see them taking the Rockets lightly in this spot.
