The Utah Jazz play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the Vivint Arena on Friday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been mired in their worst slump of the season as they will be hoping to put an end to their current six-game slide after getting routed by the lowly Kings in a 112-101 road loss on Wednesday. Nic Claxton led the team with a season-high 23 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, James Johnson added 18 points on eight of 11 shooting off the bench while Patty Mills and Kyrie Irving each scored 14 points. As a team, the Nets shot 48 percent from the field and eight of 25 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start and looked to be in control after taking the lead into halftime, but they couldn’t maintain the pace and never challenged again after the Kings opened the fourth quarter with a pivotal 9-0 run. James Harden had a rough night as he finished with just four points on two of 11 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in a major slump as they’ve lost 11 of their past 14 games, but they will be eager to build some momentum after putting a halt to a five-game slide with a 108-104 win over the Nuggets on Wednesday. Trent Forrest led the team with 18 points and eight assists, Mike Conley added 17 points with five assists while Royce O’Neale, Bojan Bogdanovic and Rudy Gay each scored 15 points. As a team, the Jazz shot 48 percent from the field and seven of 29 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the shorthanded Nuggets in a close contest until 3:26 left on the clock when they used a pivotal 9-2 run to escape with the hard-fought win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Jazz are 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 home games, 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a winning record and 6-18-2 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the Nets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Utah and the Nets are 7-18 ATS in the last 25 meetings overall.
The Nets will again be without Kevin Durant, Joe Harris and LaMarcus Aldridge, while the Jazz are still missing Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles, while Hassan Whiteside and Jordan Clarkson are both listed as questionable. The Nets have been in terrible shape lately, so they could really do with a win just to get their season back on the track. The Jazz have been in a rut of their own as they’ve lost 11 of their past 14, but they would’ve taken plenty of confidence from their gritty win over the Nuggets on Wednesday. You couldn’t bet your money on either team with much confidence, but the Jazz are only 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 home games, so I’m taking the Nets with the points in this spot.
