The Toronto Blue Jays started their series on a high note after picking up a 7-1 win over the Yankees on Tuesday. The win brought Toronto to 84-67 on the year, sitting in the 2nd Wild Card spot in the American League. Bo Bichette leads the Jays with 159 hits and a .304 batting average along with 19 home runs, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has a team-high 24 home runs and 90 RBIs this season. Matt Chapman’s also contributed a team-best 38 doubles for Toronto as well as having the unfortunate distinction of leading the Jays with 153 strikeouts on the year. Kevin Gausman will start for Toronto here and is 11-9 with a 3.40 ERA and 222 strikeouts this season.

Yankees Fall Flat In Opener

The New York Yankees didn’t get the start to this series that they were hoping for, taking their loss on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Yankees to 76-75 on the year, sitting 7 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the American League. Gleyber Torres leads the Yankees with 152 hits and a .272 batting average along with a .345 OBP and a team-leading 66 RBIs while Aaron Judge has a team-high 32 home runs and 63 RBIs so far this season. Torres also has a team-high 27 doubles while Anthony Volpe leads New York with 4 triples. Michael King will get the start here and is 4-6 with a 2.77 ERA and 108 strikeouts this season.

I’m looking at the Blue Jays here. I thought New York had a great chance to do some damage on Tuesday against a lefty, but now they’re up against a righty in Kevin Gausman, and the Yankees have struggled against righties for the better part of the season. Gausman hasn’t been as sharp as Toronto’s staff ace lately, but I think he’s good enough here as the Blue Jays are simply the more consistent lineup here.
